His Life Is Our Light

L. Campbell Evans

In the BEGINNING, God CREATED the heaven and the earth, And the earth was WITHOUT FORM, and VOID; and DARKNESS was upon the face of the waters" Genesis 1:1.

In the beginning (FIRST, FIRSTFRUITS,CHIEF), the EARTH which God had created was in total darkness and it was devoid of any and all life forms. Nothing breathed, nothing walked, and nothing existed that had the presence of life! Often times man will look at life as something that always was, as being self perpetuated and self existent. This is true in relationship to God, for He is life and He has always existed, but created life forms were yet to be. The first creation day had its beginning in darkness, and because light was not present so also life was non-existent. Nothing can live in a state of total unending darkness. It is light that provides the environment within which life can exist and develop.

Have you ever considered that if this earth were to lose it's sun, it would be only a matter time before every form of life would die? Life cannot be sustained without the infusion of light and so with this understanding we can clearly see why God brought light into manifestation immediately after the creation of heaven and earth in order to complete the first day of creation. In addition, God is the source of ALL life forms. They didn't just evolve as many would think, rather "by him were ALL things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL things were created by him, and for him: And he is before ALL things, and by him ALL things consist" Colossians 1:16-17.

"All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" John 1:3

"But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are ALL things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are ALL things, and we by him" 1Corinthians 8:6.

Everything that exists finds its' life and substance in God. If God were to remove Himself, life would end. In the garden, as long as Adam 'walked and had communion with God', he knew only life! But when he became separated from God's life and light, death came to him. And not just physically! He fell into darkness and became separated from God in his heart and mind. His mind became darkened in the ways and things of God and he fell to his own devices of reason and logic for survival.

And God SAID "LET THERE BE LIGHT;" AND THERE WAS LIGHT, And God saw the light , that it was good; and God divided the light from darkness, And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning were the FIRST day. Genesis 1:2-5

And God MADE TWO GREAT LIGHTS; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God SET THEM IN THE firmament of the HEAVEN to GIVE LIGHT UPON THE EARTH, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to DIVIDE the LIGHT from the DARKNESS: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the FOURTH day. Genesis 1:16-19

Many have pondered within their hearts how light could have existed in the FIRST day, when the sun was not created until the 16TH VERSE, which was THE FOURTH DAY! This one vital truth seems at first sight to be a clear contradiction of scripture, notwithstanding that the above scriptures clearly defy all logic and all the laws of science. "IMPOSSIBLE" many declare, clearly showing us that the scientific community and the intelligence of man can never understand spiritual realities through their natural means of logic or reasoning. And so immediately, we are introduced to one of the greatest mysteries of God known to man, that of light shining forth BEFORE THE SUN WAS CREATED in the fourth day. But we, as a good steward of the mysteries can "KNOW the MYSTERIES of the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 13:11), And he said, Unto you it is given to KNOW the MYSTERIES of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand (Luke 8:11)".

There are certain things that can only come to our understanding through the revelatory impartation of the Spirit of God. Jesus made that clear in scripture when He said, "Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven"(Matt. 16:17), as Peter declared Him "to be the Christ, the Son of the Living God (Matt. 16:16)"!

So, what was the LIGHT that shone the first THREE days and divided the darkness? The word tells us that God SAID light "BE" (to become, arise out of), calling forth the light that ALREADY WAS! He released out of Himself the very essence His nature into the natural realm of creation, filling it with HIS LIGHT, HIS LIFE, And HIS GLORIOUS PRESENCE!

This light was PURE LIGHT, the substance of that which was real. It was not the artificial light that we see created in the 4th day. It couldn't be created for it had no beginning and no ending. IT WAS ALWAYS! This LIGHT was the TRUE LIGHT, THE LIFE – GOD HIMSELF!!!! God placed Himself into the earth in order to provide an environment for ALL life to exist and be sustained once it was created. His Spirit Life (Light) had come to that which knew it not. His divine seed had been planted to impregnate and make alive every living thing that would be created! Let us always remember that the seed of all life in the beginning was in God.

"God IS light, and in him is NO darkness at all (1John 1:5) Light within itself is not God, however God is light. We can harness the forces of electricity and create light, but that light is not God. Harnessed light can be turned off and on, it can be controlled. Without the revelation of the Spirit of God, how can one understand such a word that Jesus spoke, "I AM THE LIGHT of the world: he that followeth me SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS (Skotia), but shall have the light of life" (John 8:12). WE SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS??!! Truly man must have thought in his heart as the Master imparted these heavenly mysteries, but there IS darkness and it is all around us. Even the night is dark! So, how is it that we will not walk in darkness? And most could not comprehend what it was that He was saying when He declared Himself to be the 'light of the world'.

Darkness is not just what we see at night (having a lack of natural light), but darkness is "Skotia: ignorance of divine things, wickedness". It is a place devoid of understanding of God, a place devoid of the knowledge of Him. ALL revelation, understanding, and knowledge of Him comes solely through God depositing or unveiling Himself in the midst of us. Placing His life EVERYWHERE! "In him was LIFE (Zoe); and the LIFE (Zoe) was the LIGHT of men" (John 1:4). What is LIFE (ZOE)??? Zoe is the God life. It is a state of being that is not dependent upon another source for its' ongoing eternal existence or substance. It is self perpetuating and complete within its own nature. However, we as mere men are not self perpetuating or self sustaining; rather we are totally dependent on Him for our existence and substance. No matter how mature we become, HE WILL ALWAYS BE OUR SOURCE OF LIFE AND LIGHT! Yes, even when we become fully clothed with our heavenly body, i.e. when we become LIKE Him, He will still be our source.

"There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the LIGHT, that all men through him might believe. HE WAS NOT THAT LIGHT, but was sent to bear witness of that LIGHT. That was the TRUE LIGHT, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world" (John 1:6-9)

"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" (John 9:5). It is time for us to realize that the Lord of Glory, the Christ, the Spirit of God is still here and He is working in and through man so that we can "be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren" (Romans 8:29). And just as He promised, "And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly" (1Corinthians 15:49).

Jesus said to us, "YE ARE the LIGHT of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let YOUR LIGHT so SHINE BEFORE MEN, that they may SEE YOUR good works, and GLORIFY YOUR FATHER which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:14-16). What a paradox! In John 8:12 Jesus declares that "HE is the light of the world" and now He says that "WE are the light of the world", thereby showing us that the children of God are sons and SONS SHINE! Our good works will cause those that are around us to give glory to our heavenly Father. Can we see that in Him we live and move and have our being? That He is alive today in a people shining forth to those that are in darkness? For us, the darkness is past, and in the world more and more darkness is being overtaken in light everyday. Darkness cannot comprehend light, but light can certainly dispel the darkness. As the children of God, when we are born again, we become one with Him and the light of His life emanates from us. Darkness cannot abide around the children of God, for the Light of life which is within us will reveal and remove the presence of any darkness. "……….which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past and the true light now shineth. (1 John 2:28).

Yes, we are HIS! We have been born of His Spirit and our Father calls us LIGHT! Read carefully the following scripture, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17).

In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the 4th chapter, John beholds an open door and is caught up in the Spirit. In the 3rd verse, he begins to describe the most wondrous of sights and he says, "he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald". Within the breastplate of the garments of the High Priest, were stones that had been set. The first stone was a SARDINE stone and the last stone was a JASPER stone! Speaking to us that He that sat on the throne is the first and the last, the beginning and ending of all things. Around the throne was a rainbow. When light is refracted, it will display the seven colors of the rainbow, ITS' TRUE HIDDEN NATURE! If one will take a prism and let the light of the sun shine through it onto a white surface, the seven colors of the rainbow will appear. Since God is light, the rainbow depicts God, declares Him! Yes, the rainbow speaks to us of covenant as a sign that was set in the heavens that God would never again flood the entire earth. But THAT rainbow is only partial, we only see an arc. John saw a rainbow encircling (circle: eternal covenant) the throne! The emerald is green and speaks to us of reconciliation, resurrection life, restoration, THE HEALING OF GOD!

His "word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path" (Psalms 119:105). Brightly lighting the way for all to come, for all to see, and for all to understand. And He has chosen vessels to carry that light, to be broken so the light that dwells within might shine through and drive away the enemy, lighting the way to a new day, a new season! "But the path of the just is as the shining LIGHT, that shineth MORE AND MORE unto the PERFECT day" (Proverbs 4:18). Our wonderful Father began it all with LIGHT and shall finish it all with LIGHT! Everything shall find it's fulfillment and fullest expression in HIS LIFE and only HIS LIFE (LIGHT) shall remain.

"And I John saw the holy city, NEW Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband" (Revelation 21:2).

"……Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the GLORY of God: and her LIGHT was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal" (Revelation 21:9-11)

"And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb ARE the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the GLORY OF GOD DID LIGHTEN it, and the LAMB IS THE LIGHT thereof" (Revelation 21:22-23). In the culmination of all things, it shall be HIS LIGHT that fully LIGHTS our environment, just as it was in the beginning. The need of the sun and moon shall be no more for we shall dwell in that ONE TRUE LIGHT. His LIFE and LIGHT shall fully be ours. Artificial light shall be removed and only the purest and truest of light shall remain. This time there shall not be darkness, for only the SON WILL SHINE in His strength and His sons shall SHINE with Him, just as He planned in the beginning.

"And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the LIGHT of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it" ((Revelation 21:24).
